Drywall + good thrift finds

This weekend Andy and I planned on doing the chair rail in the baby's room, but who knew the demand for Zipcars over the holiday would leave us high and dry?
Instead Andy finished caulking the crown molding, and had a handy friend come over and patch some drywall so that we can begin painting soon. I went on a hunt for some ladybugs to put on our tomato plants to kill some pests and came up empty, but did find this upholstered footstool for $40. It was light enough to tie onto the back of my bicycle and ride home with! I threw in a picture of the yard, we worked on the compost piles this morning and there's a squirrel getting into some mischief as usual.

Things are growing

Between the front yard, the garden (weeds and all), and the womb, things are really sprouting.

Crown Molding

This weekend we were fortunate enough to have my dad here to show us how to put up crown molding. Check it out. It looks really great all over, especially in the brown guest room. We also did some cove-type molding in the hallway which we'll post once it's painted!

Crime Scene Backyard

Today the electrician finishes everything up, and we move onto drywall repair! The new dining room chandelier should be hung by the time I get home from work and I can't wait to see it. (Pictures soon).
Our garden is coming up nicely, especially the weeds, but everything we planted (lettuce, okra, zucchini, cucumber, tomato) is enjoying the spring rain we've been having for almost a week straight. There was a mysterious scene a few days ago that involved a very large log from our firewood pile, being moved quite far and sitting next to some remnants of an unfortunate bird. This log could not have been moved by anything but a human or a large beast (possum perhaps?) Anyways, Andy was kind enough to dispose of the bird feathers and limb, in addition to putting up a nice new coat of paint in the bathroom after much sanding and spackling.
This weekend we work with my dad on crown molding for the upstairs bedrooms, hallway, and bathroom. It finally feels like things are moving along again with the spring weather and the other little incentive to get as much done before October as possible!

Electrician Update

We finally have a light over the kitchen sink! And outlets in bedrooms! And recessed lights for the hall and stairway!

It has been awhile since the last update, but we haven't been totally slacking! We added 12" of blown-in insulation to our attic, putting us at approx. R-40, and currently have an electrician at the house doing a variety of things that should make our house much more functional and enjoyable. In the meantime Andy turned 30, and we started working our compost into the garden, and planted some lettuce. You can check out the cake and garden below, plus see a swatch of the fabric that my mom will be making roman shades with for the baby's room.
